What is Qigong?

Qigong originated in China about 5,000 years ago. It is based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) principles, which state that qi, or energy, is inherent in the living human body and the body is sustained by energy. Qi is stored within the body in the form of energetic pools, , creating the energetic matrix of the internal organs. From these internal pols, the bodies life force energy flows in the form of rivers and streams. These rivers and streams form the bodies vessels, channels and collateral systems.

According to TCM principles, a person’s qi must flow throughout the body in order for people to feel their best. If a river or stream gets obstructed qi becomes stagnant in that area, and health problems can occur.

Qigong uses simple poses, breathing patterns, visualization and meditation to promote a healthy energy flow and reduce stagnation of qi. Proper flow of qi can help the body engage its own healing processes. The literal translation of qigong is “to work with qi.”

Qigong movements are beneficial for specific concerns such as: digestive disorders, chronic pain, cancer and disorders of the cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems.

Qigong supports us to move emotions through the body. Feeling and expressing emotions is one of the keys to health and vitality. Anytime emotions are repressed they get stored in the body which causes stagnation. Like when a stream gets blocked and the water pools and goes stagnant, this is what happens in the body.

This exercise the Bow and Arrow is tracing the Lung and Large intestine meridian which is connected to grief and courage. It's essential to let go, to create space to let in. Like exhaling before inhaling. It’s essential to fully grieve an ended relationship before starting a new one. Otherwise you are starting a new relationship on top of the old one which will get crowded, and doesn’t actually honor either of you. Grieving the relationship, honours the relationship and brings completion, from completion we can start fresh!

Take aim at what you are ready to let go of and let it go, releasing attachment and creating space so your bodies rivers and streams can flow smoothly keeping you vibrant and healthy in all areas of life!!!
